The 2024 Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo is an absolutely incredible value that earned 92 points from Antonio Galloni, who called it exactly what it is: “a Barbaresco in all but name.” It’s a gorgeous, pure-fruited Langhe Nebbiolo that will win over everyone from Pinot Noirs all the way to Barolo. Medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins, cherry, rose petals, and spice – this is just a beautiful, elegant wine that people are going to really enjoy. It’s made from nearly 30-year-old vines in the Basarin cru in Neive, planted atop a mix of fossilized marl and sandy soils. What you’re getting is declassified Barbaresco from slightly younger vines. Such a steal at this price!

The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is a promising wine that shows what was possible in this tricky vintage, even among entry-level offerings. Deep and layered in the glass, the 2024 gradually begins to open with some air. Its depth, persistence and balance are all notable, while the aromatics are typical of a wine that is still in barrel. Macerated cherry, rose petal, blood orange and exotic spice notes abound. The Langhe Nebbiolo looks to be the most succesful of the entry-level Sottimano wines in 2024. All the fruit is from Basarin, making this a Barbaresco in all but name.
Any time I’ve visited Piedmont in the past 5-10 years, there is one name that I hear from locals more than any other: Sottimano. The tiny family-owned winery has been on a tear that could make most of Italy jealous.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate recently called them “a property that continues its rapid ascent into the top echelon of the region’s finest estates.” That is insanely high praise, until you’ve tasted their wines once – after that, you totally get it.
