Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2022

95 Points, James Suckling

This is the Silver Oak that everyone knows and loves – a big, beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon that barrel-aged for 24 months in American oak (50% new) from their own cooperage in Missouri, then 14 months in bottle before its release. A lot of time aging and meshing with the oak, and having it impart all sorts of wonderful flavors. The hallmark American spice character comes through in spades backed by dark chocolate, black cherry and a hint of vanilla with some minerality and spice that come on towards the finish.

James Suckling gave it a rave 95-point review (two points higher than he came in for the 2021 vintage) calling it “the pretty side of Cabernet” with “very fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity.” This is a phenomenal wine that can absolutely be enjoyed out of the starting gates, however, I think this beauty will continue to improve over the next few years.

95 Points, James Suckling
Pleasing aromas of plums, anise, black cherries and sweet spice box. A medium-bodied wine with very fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity, showing the pretty side of cabernet. A flavorful mix of both red and black fruit. Fresh and drinkable now but will age elegantly. Drink or hold.

Silver Oak is one of the most iconic wine brands in the world. Unlike most wineries that make multiple varietals, Silver Oak focuses on one thing: Cabernet Sauvignon. Through their distinct and unapologetic style and use of American and not French Oak, it’s a brand that built its reputation on restaurant wine lists nationwide for the last 45 years. You can walk into any steakhouse in America and you’ll find Silver Oak on the list, usually with a premium price tag to match.
