Seghesio ‘Cortina’ Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2023

95 Points, Wine Spectator – 94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

Wow! A big, supple wine with a lot of balance and harmony. This is a ‘must-have’ for my Big Red drinkers. As good as it gets in the Zin department. Wine Spectator came in at a thunderous 95 points for the 2023 Cortina calling it “polished and detailed with multilayered raspberry and cherry flavors that take on toasty spice, garrigue and savory pepper tones.” Jeb Dunnuck came in just below at 94, loving “the freshness and linear bright spine of acidity, with salty lift, refreshing pink peppercorn spice and fresh stone fruit.” Not just one, but two of the most respected voices in wine, both singing the same tune about a fantastic old-vine bottling. This matches the highest score that a Seghesio wine has received from Wine Spectator since they first started submitting for scores in 1982.

Original price was: $50.00.Current price is: $33.00.

95 Points, Wine Spectator
Polished and detailed, with multilayered raspberry and cherry flavors that take on toasty spice, garrigue and savory pepper tones as this builds richness toward supple tannins. Drink now through 2035.

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Coming from the Dry Creek Valley, the 2023 Zinfandel Cortina is a deeper youthful red color and is entirely Zinfandel. Attractive, though a bit shy on the nose, it offers more red-fruited tones of Amarena cherries and pomegranate. Made from fruit picked in October, the wine is medium to full-bodied, and I love the freshness and linear bright spine of acidity, with salty lift, refreshing pink peppercorn spice, and fresh stone fruit. It has nice definition to the tannins and can be enjoyed now or over the coming 6-8 years. Drink 2026-2034.

Seghesio is one of the most historic names in California winemaking and they’ve racked up almost every achievement in the book on their way to earning this unmatchable legacy. But even for a winery with a rich history, their ‘Top Value of the Year’ honors from Wine Spectator managed to earn the iconic winery a new ‘first’.

They’ve been around since the 1800s embracing their Italian heritage and making some of the best Zinfandel made anywhere in the world. Nothing could be more evident than their 2023 ‘Cortina’ Old-Vine Zinfandel receiving its highest score ever from Wine Spectator in their 35 years of submitting to the publication for scores. These guys are making wines as good as they’ve ever been. A must-have for my ‘Big Red’ drinkers.
