Sea Smoke ‘Botella’ Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills 2024

Sea Smoke’s unique work in Santa Barbara with Burgundian varietals shot the winery to fame and sent thousands of fans scouring the web searching for bottles. After years of keeping a secret wine exclusive to their tasting room, they’ve finally decided to let the ‘Botella’ out of the bag.

This beauty was sourced from elite neighboring vineyards like Fiddlestix, La Encantada, and Sanford & Benedict in the Sta. Rita Hills. Together, these are some of the most prestigious vineyard sources in California, planted on the distinctive mineral-rich Botella clay soils.

Under Don Schroeder’s lead, the Botella wines are made for immediate enjoyment with the same precision that defines Sea Smoke. The Chardonnay uses stainless steel fermentation and minimal new oak. This helps bring out the most pure expression, packed with the vibrancy, and character of Sta. Rita Hills in a more approachable style than Sea Smoke’s flagship estate wines.

Original price was: $65.00.Current price is: $59.00.

No one else has this. We’re first, and that’s only because Sea Smoke and I have an incredible relationship. We actually had a meeting at Barrel & Roost a few months ago about how we can do more work together, and this was the biggest takeaway I left with. What an incredible opportunity—like getting in on the ground floor with Sea Smoke two decades ago!

Botella was first introduced as a ‘Tasting-Room Only’ Pinot Noir that used to lure in folks and win them over to the Sea Smoke Style. After a pause in production in 2015, Botella returns—now offered as both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay —sourced from the creme da la creme of neighboring vineyards like Fiddlestix, La Encantada, and Sanford & Benedict in the Sta. Rita Hills. These are some of the most prestigious vineyard sites in all California, planted on the distinctive mineral-rich Botella clay soils. That’s where the name comes from!
