Roco Gravel Road Chardonnay Willamette Valley 2022

93 Points, James Suckling

In my opinion, this is one of the top Willamette Valley Chardonnay values, without question. It’s what great Oregon Chardonnay should be – pure, cool-climate fruit that lets the terroir do all the talking and can be had for an affordable price. The wine is made by a legend, Rollin Soles who had a #1 wine of the year and had his wines poured at the White House. Bright, clean and delicious with great balance, lemon and citrus fruit and great mid-palate that is balanced and fresh and leads to a pure finish.

Original price was: $32.00.Current price is: $25.50.

Fresh and lively aromas of tropical fruit and white blossoms predominate on the nose. Medium-bodied and textured, with good balance and acidity. Gentle and spicy finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

ROCO Winery’s story is a true testament to the pioneering spirit of Oregon wine. When Rollin Soles and Corby Stonebraker-Soles first arrived in the 1980s, they weren’t just moving to a new state; they were stepping into the very beginning of a burgeoning wine movement.

Alongside other daring entrepreneurs, they shared a bold vision: to prove that Oregon could produce world-class wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, on par with Europe’s finest. They weren’t just planting vineyards; they were actively shaping an industry, building wineries, and establishing foundational organizations that would lay the groundwork for Oregon’s now-celebrated wine region.

Fast forward over 35 years, and ROCO stands as a shining example of Oregon winemaking at its absolute peak. Their dedication and talent have led to an impressive track record, boasting hundreds of 90+ point scores from top critics, multiple appearances on Wine Spectator’s prestigious Top 100 Wines of the World list, and even the honor of having their wines served at the White House.
