Reputation Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2023

This is a big, beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The kind that serious Cab drinkers can’t get enough of and that usually commands a $75/bottle price tag as a tasting-room only selection. But in California, deals are happening if you know where to look. This leads with bold dark-fruited flavors, a hint of cocoa, plenty of power. In the 2023 vintage, the critics felt the same way. Suckling gave it 94 points highlighting “tension and finesse with a creamy refined finish.” Wine Enthusiast came in at 93, calling out “a complexity of flavors that has intrigue as much as refinement.” This is a gorgeous 87% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot from one of Napa’s most celebrated but unnamed addresses in what Lisa Perotti-Brown called a “once in a lifetime” 2023 vintage.

Original price was: $75.00.Current price is: $22.00.

94 Points, James Suckling
Iodine, seashells and black cherries with hints of pencil. Medium-bodied with medium tannins and a creamy, refined finish. Shows tension and finesse. A blend of 87% cabernet sauvignon with cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot. Drink or hold.

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Medium-bodied and almost silky, this Cabernet Sauvignon delivers the range of interest and classic character so intrinsic to Napa Cabernet. Black fruits and graphite, resinous and savory herbs, and a accent of octopus ink make for a complex of flavors that has intrigue as much as refinement. Will continue to gain complexity with age, and can be enjoyed now with decanting and a meal.

The 2023 Reputation Cabernet Sauvignon comes with an ironclad NDA and some huge scores. I cannot name the vineyard. I cannot name the winery. What I can tell you is that most people have 100% heard of it, and that even a couple of details would make it immediately identifiable and mess up the NDA. This is the kind of wine that ends up in a Napa Valley tasting room with a $75 price tag and a waitlist. But the current distress in the California wine market means if you have boots on the ground, you can find openings like this. You better believe I went all-in.
