#2 Wine of the Year, Wine Enthusiast Top 100 (2023)
Located halfway up the hill dominating the principal valley of Barolo, buttressed by steep slopes lined by orderly vineyards, lies a precious jewel from the 15th century: the Abbey of Annunziata.
Today it is home to Renato Ratti winery and 100 acres of vineyards. These wines are treasures that are starting to grow into an international juggernaut aided by their outrageously good Barolo bottlings in addition to Nebbiolo d’Alba, Barbera and even Dolcetto.
Renato Ratti was a leader in innovation and modern practices in both the vineyard and the cellar. A lot of the things he introduced back in the 1960’s are still being practiced today with the winery now in the hands of his son Pietro and his nephew Massimo. Needless to say, Pietro and company are totally on fire!
