There are comebacks, and then there’s the triumphant return of an American winemaking icon. Joel Peterson, the legendary figure who started one of America’s first cult wineries and sparked California’s Zinfandel revolution, is back where he belongs – and we’ve secured a special restaurant-only pricing on the first release that marks Ravenswood’s emphatic return to glory.
If you’ve been enjoying California wine for any length of time, you know the Ravenswood story. Founded in 1976 with just 327 cases, Peterson built Ravenswood into a million-case juggernaut with his rallying cry of “No Wimpy Wines” before the brand was sold to Constellation in 2001 – a sale Peterson famously cast the only dissenting vote against.
After watching his beloved brand languish and eventually disappear from shelves, Peterson has been lured out of retirement by Gallo to resurrect Ravenswood with a renewed focus on what made it special in the first place: smaller production, top-quality wines from the best of the best vineyards.
