Quilt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

94 Points, Tasting Panel – 92 Points, James Suckling

One of the greatest Cabernet wine families in the world and the monumental 2023 vintage in Napa Valley: what a recipe for success. Unsurprisingly, this has already been treated to an emphatic 94-point from the Tasting Panel who called it “Silky, streamlined, rich and approachable.”

With seemingly infinite access to some of the absolute very best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.) The brand new 2023 is a monster: just as big and deeply concentrated as you could want it with pure dark, juicy fruits that come at you in waves. It’s a dark,  approachable blend that effortlessly combines elegance with power.

94 Points, Tasting Panel
“Silky and streamlined, with cigar leaf, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. The refined mouthfeel is graced with blackcurrant and a touch of oak mingled with anise, and notably, a balanced acidity. Rich and approachable.”

92 Points, James Suckling
“Black currants, cedar, licorice, cured meat, spices and crushed stones. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins, bright acidity and a luscious, polished yet balanced finish. Excellent, showing a sense of class.”

Enjoy this Cabernet with my ultimate burger al fresco with family and friends in the spring!

As a fifth generation Californian winemaker, Joe Wagner has it pretty good. His family has built an empire in American wine. Caymus, the flagship brand is nothing short of a Napa Valley cult. And that’s just one brand out of dozens that the Wagner family has built from the ground up into something huge. With their feet firmly entrenched in the soil and the fabric of California winemaking, perhaps there’s no more fitting brand name for the Wagner family, than one of their more recent projects, Quilt.

With their access to an abundance of the best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St. Helena, Coombsville, Atlas Peak, Calistoga and Howell Mountain).
