This is a dynamic, enveloping, harmonious red wine created from a wise blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet grapes. The three grape varieties are vinified separately to best respect their characteristics and then undergo a cold maceration of 5-6 days at 4 degrees and a fermentation of 12-14 days at a controlled temperature of maximum 24 degrees. 30% of the wine is aged for 3 months in barrique and 2 months in bottle. It has a beautiful intense red color with violet reflections. On the nose there are scents of currants, sour cherries and distant hints of plum together with cocoa and cloves.
Poggio del Concone Toscana IGT 2021
Poggio del Concone is a fairly new Tuscan winery, only first being opened in 2017. The idea began when Alessandro Mutinelli, said to his business partner Andrea, that they should together make a wine, that they both love, that can be enjoyed all the time, no matter the price and whether or not it will sell. Just give it a go and see what happens. If they fail, they fail.
Fortunately for the two, they are both savvy businessmen, and early indications are that this new project is a smashing success.
A true Tuscan man, Andrea chose a great region for producing good wine. He looked for a patch of land where the grapes ripened to perfection, and the vineyards were just so and they went for it.
Making for now just two wines – both Super Tuscan blends of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the two have been relying on expert reviews to get the word out about their wines. Luckily, for the last few years, the duo have been treated to a hit parade of big numbers. It’s easy to see why too. The blends are seamless, very expressive and layered wines that drink well, and only improve with time in the glass.
