91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This inky-hued Cab-Shiraz blend is a broody bottling, with a savory, black olive and dusty library-book note to the raspberry and blackcherry fruit. There’s a minty, earthy nuance too, plus a subtle polish of mealy, chocolatey oak. The powerful palate is densely packed with dark fruit and spice, cinched by chiseled tannins. While intended as Penfolds’s more approachable range, this vintage is a big, chewy one.
Penfolds Max’s Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
99 Points, James Suckling – 97 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
Penfolds is globally synonymous with unrivaled Australian quality and innovation, built upon a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes blending across vineyards and regions to achieve a consistent house style. Their Max’s Cabernet/Shiraz blend is always one best values, but in 2021, it’s a home-run that is a perfect fit for BBQ, pizza night or even dessert. Wine Enthusiast raved calling out a “powerful palate” that they wrote was “cinched by chiseled tannins.” This is a big, brooding wine, but super approachable and enjoyable all the same.
