93 Points, Wine Spectator
Rich, powerful and well-structured, with lemon drop accents to the dried apple and pear tart flavors that show plenty of toasty accents. The creamy finish is boosted by rich acidity. Drink now.
92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a crisp and focused wine, with underlying richness that gives it cohesion and structure. It offers a wealth of Gravenstein apple, Meyer lemon and freshly cut pear, finishing on a spicy hint of nutmeg.
The uber-famous Patz & Hall has long been one of California’s greatest wine treasures. Known for producing world class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they have access to some of the best sites in all of California from nearly 100 years of combined experience and relationships formed by founders Donald Patz and James Hall.
With access to vineyards like Pisoni, Dutton Ranch, Martinelli, Hyde and Hudson, it’s no wonder the duo turned into one of the wine world’s preeminent producers of top tier Chardonnay. For years, wine critics, Chardonnay enthusiasts and sommeliers in some of the finest restaurants around the world have clamored to get their hands on the Patz & Hall Chardonnay.
In their latest vintage, 2019, they were commissioned with a special hush hush project by a very big player in the food & wine space (who shall remain nameless) on a ‘Vintage Select’ Sonoma Coast Chardonnay bottling, only using a few specific blocks from Pisoni and Dutton Ranch vineyards. Combining those two vineyards with these special blocks – the end result would turn out at least a step or two above their regular Sonoma Coast bottling.
