Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin 2021

97 Points, Wine Spectator – 95 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate

This is the most famous Barbaresco producer’s flagship Barbaresco. This is literally as good as it gets. Everything that Paitin does is special, the way they are able to get the most incredibly, elegant and age-worthy Nebbiolo expressions from their renowned Cru seems to be a mystery that no one else can solve. But a 97-pointer from the 2021 vintage has to be as good as I can remember this signature wine being in many, many vintages. It’s a true showstopper.

Original price was: $80.00.Current price is: $74.00.

97 Points, Wine Spectator
A mix of plum, cherry, juniper, eucalyptus and earth flavors highlights this dense red, which borders on powerful, yet with a supple texture and vibrant acidity keeping everything well-defined and driving the extensive finish. Beautifully balanced and complex. Best from 2028 through 2046.

95 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The Paitin 2021 Barbaresco has cherry and bright fruit at the top, with spiced cherry, cooked cranberry and orange peel with clove. There is a very fresh botanical feel to this wine with spice and earth, and some distant dried flowers as well. It has a low-key and elegant mouthfeel that stays with you over the long haul.”

Paitin was already one of only a handful of top Barbaresco producers in the region, crafting stunning age-worthy Nebbiolos before the brothers, Giovanni and Silvano began a revolution of the property.

They built a new winery and cellar, returned to making Nebbiolo the traditional way, but their biggest move was bringing in Dante Scaglione in 2010 – fresh off a 16-year stint at the helm of Bruno Giacosa. Lucky for us, he didn’t bring along the three hundred dollar price tags, just his insane standards for quality.

Perhaps his most important project was crafting the wines off of one of the most revered vineyards in Barbaresco – the famed Serraboella Cru – of which the Paitins own 10 hectares. From those very special 10 hectares – the top Nebbiolo parcels are selected each year for their infamous Sori Paitin Barbersco.

In the 2021 vintage, this world-famous wine made a lot of noise – earning 97 points from the world’s stingiest critic, Wine Spectator. You’ll likely be seeing this on a Top 100 list or two come the end of the year.
