Every once in a while, Oregon will surprise you. Just when you think “Oh Oregon is all Pinot”, something new will emerge on the national scene and silence that narrative. For a few years now, the husband and wife duo of John House and Ksenija Kostic has been doing just that.
They founded Ovum back in 2011 – with their initial goal to celebrate of the diverse expressions of Oregon Riesling. After years of learning the intricacies of the Willamette Valley while working together at Chehalem (arguably Oregon’s best white wine producer), John and Ksenija set off to further investigate the myriad terroirs of Oregon through the lens of Riesling, and now source fruit from through the state. They have found sites with blustery Pacific winds, extreme diurnal shifts, and rocky, well-draining soils and eventually, their project expanded to celebrate more of what Oregon can create when boundaries are tested.
