Nikka Days Japanese Whisky

Category

Nikka Whisky is actually made up of two separate distilleries. The first, Yoichi, was built in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru. In 1969, a second distillery was built to make a different kind of whisky from Yoichis and the two have been working in tandem ever since.

The founder, Masataka Taketsuru, traveled to Scotland in 1918 to learn the process of distilling Scotch whisky first hand. He was also a chemist and married a daughter of a Glasgow doctor, so he was very entwined with Scotch making from a young age.

Nikka Days was developed as a whisky that could be enjoyed on any occasion any day of the week. It’s vibrant with bright, bold flavors, some fruitiness but also a little floral with some slightly peated malt taste. It’s the perfect cocktail or ‘on-the-rocks’ kind of whisky and it’s priced to perfection for it.

Original price was: $55.00.Current price is: $39.00.

I tried the Nikka Days and I will say this one has mass appeal. It’s a crowd pleaser. It’s a blended whisky that they make at Nikka for ‘everyday consumption’ and it’s just really smooth and easy drinking whisky. It’s the kind that can get you in trouble because it goes down in a hurry. This is absolutely perfect in a Highball or a Whisky cocktail (I like it in my Bourbon Smash and in our ‘New Fashioned’ with orange bitters and luxardo cherry) but it also has enough of a mouthfeel to be enjoyed on the rocks as well.
