Nickel & Nickel State Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Categories , ,

Far Niente has launched themselves into stardom worldwide by consistently making some of the best and most exciting Cabernets. I would argue that where they took it up a few notches in quality and stature is when they committed mass amounts of resources and energy into their Nickel & Nickel Single Vineyard bottlings. They are some of the best expressions of Oakville and Yountville single-vineyard Cabernet produced most years, and in Napa Valley’s exceptional 2029 vintage – it’s not surprising that these wines yet again remain a cut above most of their competition.

State Ranch Vineyard is located northeast of the town of Yountville. The 23-acre vineyard is divided into two parcels by State Lane Road and consists of both older and younger vines. Many excellent wines are produced from this area, in part due to the rocky, loam soil which has excellent drainage throughout the year.

Original price was: $135.00.Current price is: $99.00.

96 Points, James Suckling

The 2020 State Ranch Vineyard lights up the board. It’s flat-out delicious and built like a racehorse with plenty of strength but also plenty of grace. It’s unsurprising that this one got a big score, but 96-points from Suckling is a huge statement considering it’s the highest score he lobbed on this bottling since the 2013 vintage! If that doesn’t say that the 2020 vintage was good to the Far Niente/Nickel & Nickel family, then I don’t know what does!
