Melville Estate Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2019

What I can say is that Melville’s wines are perennial winners – almost preying on vintage variations in weather as opposed to having to react to them. The 2018 marks the fourth straight year with 94+ scoresand the best price in the country on bottle one today.

Founded by Ron Melville and winemaker Greg Brewer (Clifton-Brewer), the two built a little dynasty in the heart of Sta. Rita Hills. Year in year out, the duo produced wines consistently scored in the mid-90s by EVERY wine publication. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate wrote that they are “continually blown away by what Melville Winery puts in a bottle”. Wine & Spirits Magazine has included them on their list of Top 100 wineries… in the World!

Now with Ron’s son Chad at the helm, the winery is reaching even more dazzling heights. The 2019 is the first to receive a 95-point Editors’ Choice in Chad’s reign. It’s an absolutely gorgeous, zipped up Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Medium to full-bodied, silky and polished. A lot to like here.

95 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast

Fresh and open aromas of strawberry sorbet, pomegranate and plum draw the nose into this bottling, but it’s the black-tea and dewy pine needle aspects that hold the attention. Tremendous energy bursts forth on the sip, full of incense and forest herbs that bolster the delicious wild, just plucked cherry and other red-fruit flavors.

95 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast

With Ron’s son Chad the head of winemaking, Melville’s winery has reached never before seen heights. In the four years he’s made the Estate Pinot Noir, its managed to garner 94 pts each year from a few different critics.  The newly released 2019 Melville Pinot is the latest in a parade of winners and it even takes it up a point. Chad carefully selects micro-lots of some of their most famous single-vineyards – to blend into a harmonious whole even greater than the sum of the parts. Bright cherry and raspberry notes with good minerality and a smooth and crisp finish. This is drinking great now and will for at least a decade. Textbook cool-climate Pinot Noir.
