Louis Jadot is practically synonymous with Burgundy, particularly within the Maconnais. And you’d be forgiven given the raw number of wines they produce each year for thinking that they were just a huge corporate negociant. But the fact is that they have one of the most impressive collection of vineyard holdings in the country – well over 500 acres including 280 of Premier and Grand Cru Cote d’Or vineyards.
With their immense acreage under management in their portfolio, they have their pick of some of the best vineyards in all of Burgundy, giving them a few legs up over the majority of their competition. Robert Parker, Jr. himself said of the winery, “This is an extraordinary house where quality is the highest priority.” They remain the only Burgundian negociant included in his iconic “World’s Great Wine Estates” report.
Their innovation and foresight has set them apart as has their dedication to the process. The winery is so meticulous about each step that they even started their own oak barrel cooperage, Cadus in order to make wines that best bring out the Burgundian expression.
But with all the regions and categories that Jadot has a stronghold on, it’s perplexing that they’re so far behind in America’s hottest category: pink wines. For such an iconic brand, I was certainly surprised when I got an email with a one time “introductory pricing” on a 30-case order. An introduction to Louis Jadot? Okay, I guess. I didn’t know anyone needed one.

“20 Under $20”, New York Times – 90 Points, James Suckling
This wine is just so bright and enjoyable to drink but it’s also a pure, soil-driven beauty that is amongst the very best made in the region each year. Of course the New York Times’ Eric Asimov is all over it – featuring his entry-level Beaujolais in his 20 under $20 ‘Finding Bargains Amid Inflation’ feature, declaring that the wine “rises above the potential of the straightforward Beaujolais appellation”. He also called out “unexpected depth” which speaks volumes to what Guignier’s savvy old-vines can yield.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
A large glass is necessary to capture the brilliant aromatics of Talmard’s Macon Uchizy. Aromas of ripe Meyer lemon, peach, honey and mint just blast from the glass upon pouring. The wine takes on weight with aeration, developing flavors of crisp green apple, juicy peach and lemon custard. The finish is long and fresh, so good with food. Roast some salmon, make sweet corn risotto, use it as an aperitif, it’s a great choice for a spring/summer-house white wine.
97 Points (Best in Show), 2022 Decanter Wine Awards
Once again, Decanter hosted the biggest international wine awards show. There are bronze medals, silver, gold and then platinum. Lastly, the true creme de la creme are awarded Best in Show, and that is where you’ll find the stellar 2019 Trefethen Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet from the beloved Oak Knoll district. The wine is an absolute show stopper– dark and brooding with aromas of violets, black fruits and figs with notes of black cherry, raspberry, plum and chocolate mousse on the palate. At today’s price, it’s one of the best deals in all of Napa.
