Kaiken Indomito Malbec 2019

Montes is the man responsible for putting Chilean wines on the map. For a few decades now, his namesake winery has been the very best in the country, and his ‘Purple Angel’ bottling is considered the creme de la creme. Indeed, it’s the only Chilean bottling ever to receive a 99-point score — an insane feat when you consider it’s Carmenere.

About a decade ago, Montes shocked the wine world when he announced he was going to take over Kaiken, a winery in Mendoza in Argentina. Long considered a rival of Chilean wine, Montes simply felt he could not pass up the opportunity to make Big Reds in Mendoza, a region he coveted.

Under his eye, Kaiken has become one of the very best wineries in all of Argentina. Wine Enthusiast called them “a symbol of high-quality” and their vineyards are consistently included among the top 100 vineyards in the world. At nearly 4,000 feet above sea level, the high-altitude Big Reds they’re able to create are simply magical.

The ‘Indomito’ is the perfect introduction to this great winery in any vintage, but especially in 2019, when it comes equipped with a 96 from Decanter, one of the higher scores ever given to a wine at this price.

Original price was: $25.00.Current price is: $21.00.

96 Points, Decanter
Lifted perfumed nose of violets, lilies and roses over beautiful dark fruit and baking spice undertones. Really fresh and juicy, with lovely sweetness, floral elegance.

96 Points, Decanter

Made in chalky, gravelly soils at extreme elevation with a river running through, the conditions are absolutely perfect for making sophisticated, energetic, and age-worthy Red wines. Even better, they ferment the wine in concrete tanks to keep all the aromatics and bombastic flavors completely intact and uninfluenced. This is a beautiful Big Red that draws you in and leaves you wanting more with each new sip.
