In what could be considered the ultimate Mother’s Day wine, Robert Mondavi, Jr. started making a couple of cases of Rosé every year for his mother, Isabel. Then, his mom asked for some Chardonnay and then some Pinot Noir…
Fast forward a few years and now Isabel has her own line of Mondavi wines: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rosé from one of the best wine sub-regions in the world. The wine is delicious. Aromatically inviting with notes of jasmine, and ripe melon with tropical, crisp notes of white peach, apple and honeysuckle.

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 89.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.5% Cabernet Franc and 4.0% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs of lot of swirling to unlock the most gorgeous perfume of bright black and red cherries, fresh blueberries and blackcurrant pastilles with hints of roses, cinnamon stick and orange peel. Medium-bodied, elegant and tightly wound, the palate shimmers with SO MUCH energy, featuring layer upon layer of floral, savory and crunchy black fruit notes, finishing long and minerally. This is a remarkably poised, seemingly effortless beauty that cannot fail to make your jaw drop. Like the previous Quilt offerings, this represents Joe Wagner’s pick of the litter of available vineyard sources that puts his inimitable blending abilities into play. In a vintage as easy and as heralded as 2021, the only difficulty the Wagners had was finding things they didn’t like. So explosive and juicy on the palate with a lush mouthfeel and silky smooth tannins. A winner for Napa and Big Red fans alike.
Even though we’re ahead of the scores, I have no doubt that what I secured for us today will join the long list of high-scoring whites for Groth – this really has it all. Made in 100% neutral oak, the aromatics completely shine here as soon as you open the bottle. Fresh lemon, citrus peel and nectarine on the nose with bright acidity, impeccable balance and a lingering aftertaste that makes you want to come back to the glass.

“One of the most elegant Cabernets of the 2019 vintage. Sourced from various Coombsville sites, this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot is teeming with minerality, baking spices, toasted cedar and rich red berry aromas. Impressively vibrant, unfolding with fragrant rose petal contrasted by fresh gravelly tones. A dusty tannin backbone is framed by firm acidity, while the round fruit profile is almost buoyant. This will develop lovely complexity over time.”
