I Greppi Greppicante Bolgheri Rosso 2023

94 Points, IWC – 93 Points, James Suckling

The newly released 2023 Greppicante is a Super Tuscan beauty that is absolutely worth your time and money. It comes with big scoers to the tune of 94 points from the IWC and 93 from James Suckling. It’s a true Bordeaux Blend with Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged twelve months in French oak. IWC calls it “precise and essential” with “rosemary, juniper berries, sandalwood, incense, elderflower, and wild violet.” Suckling found it “broad and structured, with a smooth, mineral-laced finish.”

Unlike its bigger sibling, Greppicaia, the Greppicante is designed to drink beautifully in its youth – plush, silky tannins, bold dark fruit, and that trademark Bolgheri elegance without the decade-long wait. For the next 3-5 years, this one will be drinking like a dream.

Original price was: $35.00.Current price is: $27.95.

94 Points, IWC
Precise and essential in its sensory profile, it reveals notes of rosemary, juniper berries, sandalwood, incense, elderflower, and wild violet. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a composed, essential finish. A blend of 60% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 13% Petit Verdot, and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon.

93 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of crushed blackberries, blackcurrants, spices, herbs, walnuts, rosemary, wet earth and iodine. Medium- to full-bodied with a compact, seamless texture and well-integrated tannins. Broad and structured, with a smooth, mineral-laced finish. Drink or hold.

In 2017, Irish geologist Dr. Neil McMahon acquired the property and did something unusual – he partnered with UC Davis, one of the world’s most prestigious winemaking universities, to bring scientific rigor to traditional Tuscan winemaking. They spun heads with their first order of business, building two human-made lakes on the property.

It was genius – the influence of the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea with the two man-made lakes on the estate helps moderate the hot Tuscan sun, promote biodiversity and keeps the vines healthy and cool. They even studied the interplay between gravel, sand, and clay-limestone soils along the coast, where sea breezes slow ripening to a crawl as they are the closest to the sea. The result?

Wines that stand toe-to-toe with Bolgheri’s elite at a fraction of the price.
