Heitz Cellar Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Categories , , Tag

Limited Library Release – 94 Points, Wine Spectator

Heitz purchased the Trailside Vineyard – nestled between Silverado Trail and Conn Creek, in the heart of Rutherford back in 1984. Each year, the Trailside bottling is not only drawn exclusively from this extremely well-positioned single vineyard, but in fact only the very best individual blocks of Cabernet make the final cut.

While Martha’s Vineyard unapologetically features unrestrained power, the Trailside is all that plus elegance. It still features immense power, but it’s wrapped up in more complex layers of flavor, extremely silky tannins, and a finish that will simply blow your mind. This is a collector’s gem at a price that’s simply unbeatable.

Original price was: $220.00.Current price is: $145.00.

Sleek and focused, with notes of damson plum, red currant coulis and dark cherry preserves corseted tightly with singed tobacco, cast iron and loam accents. Cedar and sanguine notes add a twang amid the dark fruit, giving the finish a mouthwatering edge. A little patience required. Best from 2026 through 2040.

Heitz is one of those classic names in the Napa Valley that have represented some of the best Cabernets of the past five decades. Their name is synonymous with excellence – it’s as simple as that.

Located at the base of the Vaca Mountain range along the eastern edge of Rutherford, the Trailside Vineyard captures the heart of Rutherford terroir, vinified in Heitz Cellar’s classic Heitz style. The well-drained volcanic soil of this parcel allows the vineyard to convey the essence of the growing season, year after year.

The Trailside Cabernet consistently displays vibrant notes of rustic red fruit, rosemary, sage, and thyme, which are all supported by mouthwatering tannins and a soft, elegant finish. Aged for three years in the cellar followed by one year in the bottle, this wine was created with your immediate enjoyment in mind and will continually evolve over the next 20+ years.
