Heitz is a legendary name in the history of American and particularly Californian wine. The ultimate wine pioneer, Joe Heitz help usher in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon.
Heitz’s 2018 entry level Cabernet continues in the winery’s tradition of excellence, pairing freshness with elegance and turning in a truly well-polished beauty. The fruit mainly came in from their St. Helena vineyard, and the winemakers say it’s one of their best vintages in years.
That can be largely attributed to the weather in these higher altitude spots. In 2018 it was perfect. With a cool to medium temperature throughout most of the spring into summer, it allowed for a smooth, consistent growing season where the balance, sugar and phenolics are absolutely on point. This is a sizzling Cabernet Sauvignon you could drink in its youth or cellar for 10-15 years easy. Always class from Heitz.

94 Points, James Suckling
A pure, balanced and fresh Napa cabernet that is not just showing heady concentration and dark fruit. Here you get some violets, nimble flowers, redcurrants, graphite and fine spices. Some oranges, too. Fragrant and nuanced. Medium to full body with tight yet refined tannins. Rather linear, tense and elegant, but lacking neither power nor definition. Better to give it a few years to deliver more complexity.
