96 Points, James Suckling
In the 2016 vintage, for the first time since 1969, the Heitz team has decided to bottle this historic lot separately once again for the winery’s 60th anniversary. As they described it: “Throughout the years, studying Joe’s notes and gaining a deeper understanding of the terroirs of the various parcels has allowed us to resurrect Lot C-91, a historical cuvée with an unprecedented depth, complexity, and aging potential… the 2016 Lot C-91 exhibits the density and length of which only the truly great wines of the world are able to achieve.”
The 2016 is indeed monumental in stature – having already received a 96 from James Suckling, one of the few reviewers lucky to have tasted it. I found it immensely complex with exciting nuances of what this will become in the future. In addition to all the decadent dark fruit are underlying elements of Italian herbs, cured meats, and even black pepper.
For 99 bucks this is a phenomenal bottle of wine right now and will get substantially better each and every year for at least another 20. And if it’s anything like past Heitz releases, it will likely increase in value about 1000% as well.

96 Points, James Suckling
Blue fruit with stone, lavender and currant aromas and flavors. Fresh herbs too. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins. Such firmness and focus and beauty. A blend of all their top single vineyards. Drink or hold.

Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
92 Pts, James Suckling – 90 Pts, Vinous
This offer is really an easy one. Two of the greatest wine pioneers from two different hemispheres (Baron Eric Rothschild from ‘Chateau Lafite Rothschild’ and Nicolas Catena from ‘Catena’) join forces to make a delicious, Bordeaux style Malbec, crafted nearly 4600 feet above sea level and offered for a fantastic price. This beauty that Vinous called, “remarkably intense” is a case-buy all the way every single vintage released. Only 30 btls to sell though… sorry in advance!
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.
