Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2020

Frescobaldi’s story is one that is very closely connected with the history of Tuscany. Sitting just outside of Florence at the high point of the medieval old-town, the Frescobaldis  were previous patrons of major works in Florence, such as Santa Trinita Bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito.

For the last 700 years, they’ve been growing wine in Tuscany. Slowly and carefully they have purchased estates which have given them access to all sorts of terroir throughout some of the most prime locations in all of Tuscany.

With properties along the hills of Montalcino, throughout Nipozzano to the hidden gem of Castello Pomino all the way up to Tenuta Ammiraglia by the sea and Tenuta Perano in the heart of Chianti Classico, the wines made here all tell profoundly different stories.

The 2020 Nipozzano Chianti Classico Riserva flexes the power and length of great Chiantis. It’s probably the savvy Sangiovese vines that were planted back in the 1970s that are most responsible for this wine being so dang good.

Original price was: $23.00.Current price is: $18.00.

92 Points, James Suckling
A tight and focused red with crushed-berry, spice, bark and fresh-herb character. Medium body, tight tannins and a zesty finish. Some mushroom at the end. Real Chianti character. Drink or hold.

92 Points, James Suckling

It’s a very intense wine that was described by James Suckling in his 92-point review as “firm and focused” and I think really shows off with its wild red berry fruit, that’s chewy and slightly spicy yet undoubtedly fresh and fruity with lots of symmetry in the glass. The tannins are super silky, making this one incredibly approachable and the finish is persistent and balanced making it extremely memorable.
