A brooding and nuanced bouquet of red and black fruit, petroleum jelly, woodsmoke, bitter cocoa, truffle and violet leads into a supple, elegant palate with fine savoury tannins and juicy acidity. Balanced, sapid and sophisticated.

Ric planted vineyards right near his house in 1979 for the purpose of growing Bordeaux varieties that he could use to start his namesake Cabernet brand. By the time he started Forman, he was already a Napa legend of sorts having been the founder of both Duckhorn and Sterling. He’s been one of the best for decades.

His two estate vineyards are in St. Helena and the Rutherford Bench, two ideal locations that Ric had fallen in love with over the years. The sites both have volcanic rock, gravelly loam, and sand which help create rich, age-worthy and complex Cabernet Sauvignons.

It’s always a little bit tough scoring Ric Forman’s Napa Valley Cabernet. But one thing that hasn’t remotely changed is the sheer quality of his Cabernets – they’re truly some of the best of the best in every vintage. 2014 is no exception!
