Forman Chateau La Grande Roche Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2021

Ric and son Tobias Forman hit an absolute home run with this 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon bottling from Ric’s two revered estate vineyards. Galloni called the wine “both impressive and a terrific example of what the vintage has to offer.” He’s just scratching the surface of how good this wine is going to be…

This is classic Napa Cabernet done right with even a little touch of Cabernet Franc added to take things up a notch. Rich, structured, elegant with black fruits, cedar, tobacco and graphite. It’s the kind of wine that ages beautifully for decades, but only if you can resist the incredible temptation to break into these bottles now! Trust me, this will blow you away even this early.

Original price was: $75.00.Current price is: $61.00.

97 Points, Vinous
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, heady wine. Even though it was just bottled, the 2019 possesses remarkable textural intensity. A whole range of floral and savory notes open as this statuesque Cabernet shows off its personality. This is an especially rich, bombastic Cabernet from Ric Forman. That is especially evident when tasted next to the 2018.”

“Similarly hued, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offers a classic, old school Napa Cabernet nose of darker currants, green tobacco, spring flowers, camphor, and new leather. As with the 2018, it plays in a more medium to full-bodied, elegant style, has ripe yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. The 2019 is more accessible and open than the 2018 and should continue drinking brilliantly for another two decades if stored correctly.”

Ric Forman is a Napa Valley legend. He was the founding winemaker at Sterling Vineyards in the 1970s, then moved on to help launch Newton Vineyard before starting his own eponymous winery in 1983. For over four decades, he’s been crafting some of Napa’s most elegant, age-worthy Cabernets. Now he’s joined by his son Tobias, and together they’ve created Château La Grande Roche: their take on how good a “second wine” should be.

Just like The Mascot started as declassified fruit from the family’s top sites, La Grande Roche is made from fruit that doesn’t make it into the flagship Forman Cabernet. But here’s the thing: when your “declassified” fruit comes from Ric Forman’s vineyards, it’s still extraordinary.

Their two estate vineyards are in St. Helena and the Rutherford Bench, two ideal locations that Ric had fallen in love with over the years. The sites both have volcanic rock, gravelly loam, and sand which help create rich, age-worthy and complex Cabernet Sauvignons.
