Having spent time at both Opus One and Clos du Val, Winemaker Kian Tavakoli brings a wealth of knowledge in Napa Valley to the team at Faustini Wines. What lured him to this project was pretty obvious: the opportunity to make Cabernet Sauvignon in his own style from some of the most elite Cabernet vineyards in the world. Whether it be Beckstoffer Dr Crane in St. Helena, Galleron Road in Rutherford, Howell Mountain, or Coombsville Vineyard, each brings with it incredible prestige and uniqueness. For Kian, the choice was an easy one.
In the excellent 2016 vintage in Napa, Kian had little work to do. With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the vineyard of the very same name located in the Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated vineyard known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and some of the big A listers that source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
It has classic notes of apple, pear and tropical and peach aromas. On the palate, the integrated oak compliments the lifted acidity beautifully, with a layered and full-bodied palate profile, leading to a refreshing, vibrant and balanced finish.

The 2019 Composition Chardonnay is stunningly complex. The nose is an impressive balance of floral notes, bright citrus, and pome fruits – a little bit rose laced into fresh, ripe pear. The location of the two parcels adds to the flavor dynamics. One block faces east towards Mt Hood and basks in the early sunlight; necessary for an extended growing season and complete maturity. The second, the North Block sits much higher in elevation upon a thin layer of soil and contributes delightful acidity. With those elements combined, the wine is stunning and unlike anything I’ve really laid my hands on from Oregon.

The 2018 Dutton Ranch release courtesy of Dan Goldfield & Co. is a total knockout. A lively, energetic old-world style Chardonnay with fresh citrus and stone fruits, a touch of salinity and piercing minerality. Flavors of green apple, mango, apricot and lemon are accented by salivating notes of toasted hazelnuts and toffee. This one is a perfect compliment to most any dish and can be enjoyed all year round. From one of the most iconic duos in American wine.
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. He is currently in charge of farming over twenty small parcels including some incredibly well respected fifty-year-old vines. This is a classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. It’s the white wine we drink most often at home. Beautiful structure and length to this.
A long-time staple ‘by-the-bottle’ wine and often the solo Pinot Grigio offered on the wine lists of both French Laundry and Per Se. Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio is one of the finest examples of Italian white wine that you can find. Owner and winemaker Cristof Tiefenbrunner crafts beautiful, crisp, Pinot Grigio in the chilly Italian Alps on the side of the mountain slopes. His winery is gorgeous, his wines– even better. His new 2020 PG is a bright and fruity white wine citrus and grassy aromas and clean, high-toned fruit.
