Faust The Pact Napa Valley 2022

95 Pts, James Suckling

‘The Pact’ is the small-production flagship bottling from Faust Wines.  Always a wine that overdelivers in value, but in Napa’s incredible 2022 vintage, superstar consultant Michel Rolland turned in an absolute beauty. This one is packed with vibrant Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak giving it a ton of power and torque for sure. It blasts out of the bottle with dark currants and rich black fruits. It’s definitely a big, brooding Cabernet with structure and finely layered grainy tannins. These ‘Pact’ wines just keep getting better and better.

95 Points, James Suckling
So strong but subtle and silky on the surface and muscular underneath. Very concentrated, tight and powerful, with mineral, iron, cocoa and chalk flavors on a foundation of superfine, powdery tannins. It’s pretty but dense, beautifully concentrated, full-bodied and well balanced.

It’s hard not to love just about everything that comes from Hunneus Wines. First, we got offered Leviathan. Then, we had a rare allocation of Quintessa. Both at exceptional prices. But those offers pale in comparison to today’s final act, a two-for-one offer of “Baby Quintessa”, from project Faust, priced to be scooped up by the case.

The winemaking team at Faust is ridiculous. Similar to the team at Quintessa (Michel Rolland/Andy Erickson) minus Rebekah Wineburg but with Charles Thomas (Opus One) and David Jelinek (Copain/Prisoner/Groth). The vineyard source out of this world – a little slice of heaven on the foothills of Atlas Peak in Coombsville. The wine is aged and bottled at Quintessa’s state-of-the-art winemaking facility.

Both have all the vineyard pedigree and winemaking prowess of Quintessa. They receive the same big scores and press as their big name brother, but at prices that Napa almost never sees anymore for wines of this caliber. And the best part, I’m able to offer these at the best prices anywhere – for as long as they last.
