96 Points, James Suckling
Refined and pure aromas of dark cherries, blackcurrants, violets and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with seamlessly integrated tannins and focused acidity, giving notes of Damson plums, graphite, mocha, dried herbs and potpourri. Very well balanced and polished. Drink or hold.
There are not too many wineries that are as notable and as consistent as Far Niente. Their beloved Napa Valley Cabernet comes from a who’s who of the best vineyard sites in Napa. It’s a seamless Cabernet blend sourced from Oakville, Stag’s Leap, Diamond Mountain, St. Helena, Calistoga, Oak Knoll and the winery’s estate fruit in Yountville.
It’s always absolutely killer – so they have no problem fetching the release price of $160/btl. In fact, they usually have a problem keeping enough inventory in stock to last the year. But of course in a 2022 vintage that is being heralded as one of Napa’s best in the last 25 years, it’s no surprise that Far Niente’s Napa Valley Cabernet is at the top of the ranks in its category.
