For years, we’ve sold oceans of Tony Soter’s Etude Lyric Pinot Noir for fifteen bucks a bottle or so. Other than CHAD, it’s pretty much the only ‘value’ domestic Pinot Noir I’ve ever cared for.
But just like everything else the last couple of years, the price has been steadily rising. There are a couple of folks who have it just under $20/bottle. Still a great price – but they may or may not have it in stock and it’s still not as good as our price!
Etude’s 2020 Lyric Cuvee is a pure ruby color to the core with a nose that is just a fantastic bowl of ripe berries. Intensely fruity with notes of baking spices, sandalwood and earth, this Pinot has a long, silky finish. Pair with roasted salmon or poultry or enjoy just by itself.

Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
This one comes from very old vines in eight different lieux-dits, with the largest portion coming from Le Fourneau. Harvest is all by hand, and this wine sees 18 months in barrels with only 10% new oak. Clement (rightfully) believes that keeping the oak primarily neutral here brings out the most authentic and intense expression of his Pinot Noirs. Take a sip or two of this and you will know exactly what I mean.
Winemaker Patrick Brunet’s tiny Domaine Robert estate consists of 50-60 year old vines, deeply rooted in the granitic soils of Fleurie. What I love about him is that every vintage brings something new but it consistently stays excellent. For his 2022 cuvee, Patrick produced a concentrated, structured Beaujolais that’s roaring out of the gates but with the bones to improve in the bottle over the next decade. This is always a fantastic bottle to have around.
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino from Aleramici hits all the right notes. It has a nice medium weight to it with easy drinking cherry, creme de cassis and purple fruits. It’s multi-dimensional with waves of some dark plum and blackberry with more sage and spice components as well that compliment it perfectly.
