A home-run of a Rose by one of Southern France’s top producers at a truly gulpable price.
You’ve probably heard me talk about Marjorie and Stephane before. Nearly 20 years ago, they took a chance on an ancient vineyard in Languedoc-Roussillon – abandoned because it was nearly impossible to farm with any modern equipment.
The decision maybe didn’t seem to make much sense at first but the wines were absolutely stunning and eventually the sommelier set in Paris caught on to Roc Des Anges. These days, the wines are found at some of the top Michelin-starred restaurants on both sides of the pond.
The 2020 Effet Papillon Rose is now in stock– fresh off the boat from France. It is once again made 100% from Grenache (as many of the best Southern French Roses are). Pale salmon in color, it boasts aromas of bright red fruits, orange rinds and a hint of lemon zest. It’s incredibly smooth and dry, making it a great food wine– but this Rose is serious with depth and complexity, making it worthy of enjoying on its own.

It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
At 350 feet above sea level, growing seasons are often extended with warm days and cool, breezy nights. The diurnal changes of temperature help create healthy vines and grapes that are packed full of complexity, concentration and energy. Ain’t a whole of Provence wineries that can compare. We’ve offered Val de Caire’s spectacular Provence Rouge before, but their bread and butter wine, the Coteaux d’Aix en-Provence Rose has finally been imported into the U.S. for the first time. People are gonna go nuts for this wine.
