If you’ve ever been to the Willamette Valley, you have to stop at Domaine Serene. It really is a must. The place is the most ‘Napa’ of any of the Oregon wineries, if that makes sense – a ultra-premium winery with white glove service serving up some of the most elite (and expensive bottles) that Oregon produces.

Few would dispute that they are Oregon’s top dog. They have been for a long time now. Ken and Grace Evenstad established Domaine Serene Vineyards and Winery back in 1989 when they acquired 42 acres of recently logged land in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. Their vision was amazing, their execution flawless.

They constructed a five-level, gravity-flow winery dedicated to crafting beautiful, ageworthy wines. Today, Domaine Serene sources its wines from six distinct vineyard estates within the Willamette Valley, exclusively cultivating Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Each estate boasts a unique combination of soils, clones, rootstocks, microclimates, slopes, and elevations, which contribute to the complexity and elegance of their wines.

Seemingly every wine they ever make is highly rated with well over 200 wines that have received scores of 90 points or higher from Wine Spectator. Notably, their 2013 Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir was ranked the #3 Wine in the World, and the 2014 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay earned 95 points, securing the #2 spot in the world according to Wine Spectator. The 2021 vintage hasn’t been rated yet by Wine Spectator, but already armed with a 95-point score from James Suckling, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one on more than one ‘Top 100’ list at the end of the year. This is one absolutely dynamic and ageworthy Chardonnay. Truly the closest thing to Burgundy in the states.

Original price was: $85.00.Current price is: $74.00.

95 Points, James Suckling
Nicely chalky and textural, this mineral-laden, medium-bodied wine goes deep and long, offering bright green apples alongside white peaches, toasted almonds and touches of butter and vanilla.

95 Points, James Suckling

Domaine Serene is the very best winery in all of Oregon. Few, if any, would disagree. Their accolades have outpaced every single one of their neighbors since they came on the scene. Over 200 wines have been points or higher by Wine Spectator. Their 2013 Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir was recognized as #3 Wine in the World, while the 2014 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay received 95 points and was ranked the #2 Wine in the World according to Wine Spectator. Their 2021 Evenstad Reserve is cut from the same cloth as the 2014 – it’s a near perfect vintage that let this superb winemaking team take their time and deliver one of the very best domestic Chardonnays of the year.
