Growers since the 1700s in some of the best 1er and Grand Cru parcels of Chablis, the Fèvre family has the pedigree, education (Natalie, Giles, and daughter Julie are all enologists), and passion to make brilliant white Burgundy.
Certified, sustainable farmers since 2004, the Fèvre family still sells most of their production to some of the greatest estates in Chablis, the family being long renowned for producing fantastic fruit.
Nathalie, Gille’s wife, was Chief Enologist at La Chablisienne. After marrying, in 2003, they decided to start estate-bottling with Gilles in the vineyard and Nathalie in the cellar. I’m doing my best to get them to release a bit more wine to the export market, but here’s your first crack at an under-the-radar white Burgundy star in the making…
Their newly released Chablis AC 2022 soars from the glass, redolent of green apple and citrus cream. The fruit is generous, and expansive on the palate with layer upon layer that just gets better with air. The finish is a mile long, with just great tension, speaking to Fèvre family’s old vine holdings in the chalky limestone of Fontenay-Près-Chablis.

One of my favorite places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. Although it is better known for the Moscato, Cortese should be one of its calling cards because in almost no places of the world does it thrive like it does here. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Cortese is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. It shows that Gianna can do far more than make some sweet whites! It’s got great notes of white peach, lemongrass, tangerine, jasmine blossoms and honeydew with a little salty lime zest on the finish. A great choice for a house white and the perfect pair for a pizza with a white sauce.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
95 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The former assistant winemaker and apprentice for Helen Turley at Marcassin, Matt Courtney left to start something special at Arista in 2013 and is well on his way. The winery has expanded, their waitlist for bottle allocations now stands at 18-months and every critic in America raves about these wines. His newly released 2019 Arista Russian River Valley Chard is a gem, one that earned 95 pts from Parker’s Wine Advocate who called it, “wonderfully inviting to drink and impressive quality.”
Every year, this wine has proven to be a Nicholas Wines staple. The newly released 2022 Frenzy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a fabulous value white wine, loaded with green apples, pears and white peaches plus a hint of spice. It’s juicy and fresh, the perfect cocktail hour white. It’s what is referred to as the perfect ‘pool wine’. It’s great paired with just about anything or just enjoyed on its own.
