After studying viticulture in Beaune and undertaking several work placements in different estates in Burgundy, Eric Desvignes joined the family business in 1983. With a wealth of viticultural experience behind him and traditional know-how handed down by his father, Eric took over the Domaine in 1998 and today it extends over approximately ten hectares producing Givry Red and White, premier cru and village wines.
The combination of old vines, low yields and organic farming at the vineyard in Givry creates incredible aromatic complexity and a lush texture generally found only in wines with much greater price tags.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate absolutely raved about the new releases from this red-hot estate. Here’s what they had to say, “The young Gautier Desvignes continues his rapid ascent at this 11-hectare Givry estate, and I was delighted by these new releases. In the vineyards, he’s moving away from chemical products, cultivating the soil and using manure instead of synthetic fertilizers. In the cellar, he’s refining his barrel program, working with fûts from Rousseau, Taransaud and Rémond, as well as used Chassin barrels. Bottling is now carried out by a superior contractor, and wines that require it now see crossflow filtration rather than more aggressive alternatives. New glass bottles and thicker corks complete the picture. Elegant, sumptuous reds and bright, chiseled whites are the order of the day, and everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended.”

90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Desvignes’s 2020 Givry Rouge delivers inviting aromas of dark berries, cloves and exotic spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate framed by powdery tannins and succulent acids. It’s a touch deeper pitched and more brooding in style than its 2019 counterpart.

This is a fabulous price for a red burgundy that has the texture and depth of a wine with a much steeper price tag.

Feudo Montoni has been one of the best producers in Italy for literally hundreds of years, most notably for their work with Nero D’Avola grape in Sicily. It’s a gorgeous expression at such a good price. The 2020 “Lagnusa” is the perfect pizza or Thanksgiving wine with juicy black fruits, grippy tannins and a wonderful, fresh and herbaceous finish. Vinous Media gave the wine 92 points and raved, calling it “remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry.” You’re going to love this.
The secret to Philippe’s tightly wound, complex Pinot Noir is a combo of ancient vines, natural farming techniques, and low yields. The wines are built to age, with incredible tension and length. And the secret to me securing his other-wordly 2017 old-vine Gevry-Chambertin can be chalked up to a great relationship and over a decade supporting superior Burgundian winemaking. The wine is scary good. The nose is wild, filled with spiced dark raspberries, red flowers, and baking spices. The palate is elegant and racy, with a dynamic tension that runs right through its minute-long finish. This is a high-toned, wound-up Pinot, that is starting to hit its prime and is really turning out to be a ‘must-have’ for true Burgundy lovers.
Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
