Back in the late 1980’s, two of the most powerful men in Burgundy, Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti fame and Jacques Seyess of Domaine Dujac decided to embark on a special project in Provence, as they both loved the promise the region offered.
They started looking for a vineyard in 1987, touring countless countrysides and surveying several lands before ultimately finding a place at the end of the summer in 1989. That’s how long it took to find a place that met these two superstars’ impossible standards. But it was worth the wait!
Locating the perfect spot, a 100-acre plot of land that sits on rolling hilltops just east of Aix-en-Provence with ample Provencal sunshine and a consistent breeze from the nearby Mediterranean Sea.
That mix of breeze and sun along with an ideal perch of 1400 feet above the sea make it an ideal place to keep acids firm and to bring out the juiciest expressions of old-vine, low-yielding Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah.
