“The 2019 Domaine de la Solitude is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, lavender, dark spice, menthol licorice and plum bring out somber shades of expression in this decidedly virile Pessac-Leognan. The potent tannins will require cellaring to soften, but there is so much to look forward to here.” -Antonio Galloni

The 2019 Domaine De La Solitude (Pessac-Léognan) reveals a ruby/plum color as well as textbook Graves notes of red and black cherries, damp earth, chocolate, and smoked tobacco. It’s rich, medium to full-bodied, has ripe, supple, yet building tannins, and a great finish. It’s beautifully done, and while I’d happily drink a bottle today, it will keep for upwards of two decades.

The 79-acre estate is owned by the religious order of the Holy Family, managed by the team of Domaine de Chevalier. This wine is balanced, ripe with generous tannins and dark-berry fruits. Black cherries and acidity complete this attractive wine. Drink from 2025.

92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, dark chocolate, licorice and smoke. Polished and refined with medium to full body and firm tannins. Ripe and fruit-driven. Hints of crushed stones and walnuts, too. Rich finish. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Drink after 2026.

This historic 36-hectare estate in Pessac-Léognan is uniquely owned by the Congregation of the Holy Family, a religious order whose traditions inspired the estate’s name, “The Solitude.” Since 1993, the religious sisters have entrusted the full technical and commercial operation of their vineyards to one of the most respected figures in the region: the Bernard family, owners of the esteemed Grand Cru Classé, Domaine de Chevalier.

This win-win partnership ensures that the winemaking adheres to the demanding, meticulous standards of a top-tier classified growth, bringing world-class expertise to the vineyard management and cellar work. Under the Bernard family’s guidance, Domaine de la Solitude consistently some of the very best red and white values in all of Pessac-Léognan.
