Corte Majoli Amarone della Valpolicella 2021

95 Points, Luca Maroni – 92 Points, James Suckling

The 2021 Corte Majoli Amarone della Valpolicella from cousins Flavio, Vanio and Federico Tezza is nothing short of a show-stopper. This is a beautiful bottle of wine, one with a lot of poise, balance and charisma. Italian critic Luca Maroni gave it 95 points. James Suckling was also a big fan, calling it “Juicy and firm with rich flavors and a lengthy finish. Slightly more vibrant than many.” That last line should stick out like a sore thumb. It’s the vibrancy, perfect harmony and light-weight mouthfeel here that is what separates this beauty from the rest of the pack.

The Tezza family has been working these vines in the Valpantena since 1960—three generations deep, with cousins Flavio, Vanio and Federico now running the show. Everything happens on-site: planting, harvesting, winemaking, bottling.

These guys are maven from the vineyard to the cellar. Nothing is sourced externally. Complete control from vine to bottle, which is exactly why the quality is so consistent and the authenticity so undeniable. The Valpantena sits between Lake Garda and the Alps in a uniquely temperate microclimate that the historian Caliari literally called “Valley of the Gods.” Tasting through this familie’s incredible portfolio of wines… it’s pretty easy to understand why!
