Clos Julien as always seems to be one step ahead. This time with one of the best domestic rose’s I’ve tasted in years. Drawn from prime (NDA protected) real estate in the heart of the San Luis Obispo Coast of the Arroyo Grande Valley – this single-vineyard Pinot is perfectly poised on a steep hillside benefiting from cool breezes, natural drainage, yet still raking in that precious sunshine.
It’s the perfect formula for a perfectly balanced, food friendly wine. Juicy and fresh on the palate, offering wild strawberry and citrus rind flavors that deepen and spread out on the back half. A long, focused and bone-dry finish shows amazing energy– this one is a crowd-pleaser for sure. But at today’s price, to be honest, the wine has no business being this good.

Crated from the wonderful estate just outside of Florence in Tuscany, Corzano e Paterno once again churned out an incredibly special and delicate Rosato of Sangiovese. This is easy sippin’, harmonious, food friendly Rose that has the backbone to stand up to fresh pizza. The Rosato is a seriously sophisticated blend that offers more savory than sweet notes. It’s an absolute treat to drink now and will continue to drink well for a few years at least.

The 2019 Wentworth Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a beauty. Made with 100% Estate Grown, organically farmed fruit from Wentworth’s noteworthy Anderson Valley vineyard. It’s made from a variety of different clones: Dijon 115, 667 and Pommard 5, that seamlessly blend to make an exciting, full-bodied Pinot. You can taste the extra flair courtesy of the 1/4 wholecluster fermentation. This is fresh and juicy and fantastic to pair with food.
Now some of the best Pinot Noir in the world comes from the Yamhill-Carlton District (this small neck of the woods has earned its own AVA) and specifically from Shea Vineyards. Big name wineries clamor for fruit: Antica Terra, Beaux Freres, Bergstrom, Penner-Ash, & Sine Qua Non, to name a few. This Pinot is lights out and even given the pedigree, drinks several echelons higher. Blueberry, Blackberry, Blue Cheese (?!?), chanterelle mushrooms, lavender, mint – I could go on. It’s literally got it all, but I won’t spoil it for you.
The 2021 Clos Julien Rose of Pinot Noir is super lively and aromatic. It opens up to notes of high-toned red berry and flowers just fly from the glass and pick up a slight savory accent as the wine opens up. Juicy and fresh on the palate, offering wild strawberry and citrus rind flavors that deepen and spread out on the back half. A long, focused and bone-dry finish showcase amazing energy for what is sure to be a new happy hour go-to and Tuesday night Hall of Famer.
