Clos Julien is tiny winery with a reputation of sourcing the best of California’s coastal vineyard sites for fine, elegant renditions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their latest release of Chardonnay comes from a small site on the second ridge off the Pacific Ocean, Spanish Springs.
Spanish Springs is a low-yielding, south-facing vineyard with vines rooted in very limestone and marine shale-based soils. Other wines from this vineyard are already going for $65 a bottle and are worth every penny. But due to our ongoing house white partnership with the Clos Julien team – we come in at a crazy good under $20/bottle price.
The newly released 2020 Clos Julien Chardonnay Price Canyon is
an absolutely phenomenal, flawlessly crafted single-vineyard Chardonnay. As bright and refreshing as you could want, it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with great minerality and a lingering, bright finish. It’s a fantastic wine for summer, pairs great with those summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish. Sometimes instead of worrying about what’s to come with future vintages, you just have to enjoy what is in front of you.
Delicious by itself as an aperitif but a fantastic foil to the cuisine of summer, scallops, grilled poultry, and summer corn.
