Easily one of the biggest names in Montalcino and throughout all of Tuscany is Ciacci Piccolomini. That winery is absolutely fantastic. Each and every year, their Brunellos light up the scoreboards and are amongst the fastest sellouts, making this small but ancient estate amongst the most sought after in all of Italy.
Utilizing 35 hectares of superior holdings in the prized Castelnuove dell’Abate zone. As The Wine Advocate says, “this hilltop hamlet is where the day’s sunbeams shine in Montalcino right before sunset.” It’s undoubtedly a little slice of heaven in the Tuscan hills.
Unquestionably the best value in the book, is also one of the best values in all of Tuscany. If you want to get an every day Red, you’d be hardpressed to get anything this good for the price. The 2023 ‘Toscana Rosso’ IGT is a beauty. It’s an energetic blend dominated by Sangiovese with a little Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah which Robert Parker, Jr. has called “[Ciacci Piccolomini] the finest I’ve ever tasted”.
