Chateau Peyrassol Cotes de Provence Rose 2022

92 Points, Vinous

This is classic Cotes de Provence Rosé from one of the oldest, most respected producers in the region at a price we’ll likely never see again. With over 800 years of winemaking, Peyrassol is best known for their iconic clay and limestone soils that produce mouthwatering Rhone blends. Their ‘Chateau Rose’ made entirely from estate fruit is the flagship bottling from this legendary producer. Even with a few years of age, it’s still wonderfully crisp and energetic. With a mix of cherries, mango, nectarines and lemon zest flavors and a piercing, dry backbone that ties it all together and gives it a lasting finish. It’s a beauty!

“The 2022 Rosé opens with a savory bouquet, blending dusty dried flowers with ginger, cardamom and a touch of dried peaches. This washes across the palate with opulent textures while remaining remarkably fresh and light on its feet. Sweet spices and ripe orchard fruit swirl throughout. The Château Peyrassol cleans up beautiful, pure, fresh and perfumed. It ends on a salty flourish.”

The Commanderie de Peyrassol is emblematic of the rich viticultural history of Provence, having produced wine in the region for almost 800 years. Today, Peyrassol makes a range of high quality wines that build upon the long history of the winery and the iconic terroir of the region with contemporary winery facilities.

The estate sits in the foothills of the massif des Maures, 10 miles from the Mediterranean Sea between Cannes and Marseille and has 95 hectares planted to vineyards cultivated on dry, rocky clay and limestone soils.

The winery has consciously maintained organic practices in full respect of the surrounding environment, aiming for certification in the coming years. No synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides are used in the vineyards. The age of the vines, the rocky terrain, and the hot, dry climate all do their part to severely restrict yields.

Whats left is extremely concentrated and energetic fruit with zesty citrusy flavors that dance on the palate. Perfect harmony and structure with a dry backbone that lays the foundation for a wonderful aftertaste with remnants of bing cherries, nectarines and mango yogurt along with a refreshingly piercing acidity to round it out.
