The Commanderie de Peyrassol is emblematic of the rich viticultural history of Provence, having produced wine in the region for almost 800 years. Today, Peyrassol makes a range of high quality wines that build upon the long history of the winery and the iconic terroir of the region with contemporary winery facilities.
The estate sits in the foothills of the massif des Maures, 10 miles from the Mediterranean Sea between Cannes and Marseille and has 95 hectares planted to vineyards cultivated on dry, rocky clay and limestone soils.
The winery has consciously maintained organic practices in full respect of the surrounding environment, aiming for certification in the coming years. No synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides are used in the vineyards. The age of the vines, the rocky terrain, and the hot, dry climate all do their part to severely restrict yields.
Whats left is extremely concentrated and energetic fruit with zesty citrusy flavors that dance on the palate. Perfect harmony and structure with a dry backbone that lays the foundation for a wonderful aftertaste with remnants of bing cherries, nectarines and mango yogurt along with a refreshingly piercing acidity to round it out.
Tenuta Sette Cieli or “The Estate of Seven Skies” is named for the view atop the tiny estate, perched up on a hill overlooking Bolgheri from nearly 1300 ft. Lucky for us, the critics don’t know about this one yet! The 2018 Tenuta Sette Cieli ‘Yantra’ is a wine that if you haven’t heard of you need to try now. Those who have bought it here have raved to me and continue to repurchase. And for great reason. This is easily one of my favorite “Tuesday Nighters” in recent memory.
Drawn from two choice spots in the Columbia Valley where Washington’s high desert land meets the Columbia River – the 2018 Cascade Heights is a juicy, inky purple, full-bodied Cabernet. Despite the bright tannins that argue for a successful drinking window of over 10+ years, this big, juicy cab is drinking excellent right now. The ‘X’ factor though is the price. At just $15/btl on bottle 1, this is unrivaled value territory.
The best white wine of the summer has arrived. Bolognani has been a staple on our list since the day we opened the door. It’s everything you want in Pinot Grigio. It’s floral with a pretty nose, a juicy middle and the zippy finish. It’s an incredibly expressive, refreshing wine that has all the goods– it’s aromatic, crisp and clean.

Last year’s Wine Spectator gave this wine the highest rating a Chianti Classico has ever received. This year it still remains to be seen. The 2017 Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva very much resembles its predecessor. It’s big and juicy, with layers of dark fruit, bramble and an extremely long finish. This year, even before Wine Spectator weighs in, the Volpaia has already racked up some big scores
