Chateau Moulin de Bernat Bordeaux 2019

Frédérike Bouzon-Petit acquired this estate in Entre-Deux-Mers at just 23 years old, drawing on her family’s winemaking roots dating back to 1890. She took over at a time with not many winemakers in the area, but that didn’t stop her her mother Françoise from running three family vineyards in the gentle rolling hills between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. In total, they’re managing 16 hectares of 35+ year old Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on well-draining clay-limestone soils with excellent sun exposure. This is thoughtful, serious winemaking at a price that defies logic.

2019 was the first year this estate became fully organic but I’m not sure if that’s why this was the best vintage of this wine made to date. It’s also entirely possible it was just the incredible year throughout Bordeaux. Sixteen hectares of 35-year-old Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines on well-draining clay-limestone soils with excellent exposure.
