Chateau Du Glana Saint-Julien 2019

93 Points, James Suckling – 93 Points, The Wine Independent – 92 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate

Chateau du Glana remains the one anomaly along the prestigious Left Bank. It sits right across the road from Ducru-Beaucaillou, on the same gravel soils, in the heart of one of Bordeaux’s most consistent appellations. Their wines are consistently excellent and the scores always reflect that. In 2019, double 93 points from Suckling and Lisa Perotti-Brown with 92 more from the Wine Advocate. All three reviewers captured the same vibes: “very pure” and “fresh” with “fine tannins.” This is an Aaron Judge-sized Home Run just hiding in plain sight. It’s only now entering its drinking prime and if you were going to enjoy a Bordeaux this week, this would be the one to try!

93 Points, Lisa Perotti-Brown
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 du Glana rocks up with ready-for-biz notes of stewed red and black currants, plum preserves, and spice cake, plus hints of tobacco and incense. Full-bodied, soft, and seductive, it has bags of juicy fruit intertwined with savory accents and a long spicy finish. Impressive!

93 Points, James Suckling
Very pure fruit here with aromas and flavors of crushed blueberries and raspberries. It’s medium-bodied and fine-tannined. Fresh finish.

92 Points, The Wine Advocate
Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 du Glana prances out of the glass with flamboyant black cherry preserves, warm cassis and wild blueberries scents plus hints of chocolate mint, tobacco leaf and Indian spices. Medium-bodied, the palate has a beautiful, velvety texture with loads of black fruit and exotic spice flavors highlighted by seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering aniseed note.

When it comes to Saint Julien, finding inexpensive & great value wines and/or finding properties off-the-beaten path is almost impossible. If it’s not coming from Gloria or Du Glana, it aint happening!

Saint-Julien is the smallest communal appellation of the left bank, with all the vineyards located in or around the small towns of Saint-Julien and Beychevelle. About 90% of the vineyards are Classified, belonging to some of the 11 classified growths. This leaves very little room for the ‘little guy’!

Château Du Glana is the one you want to root for. They’re located on the Route des Grands Vins running parallel to the Gironde estuary, between Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, opposite the famous Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou and Chateau Saint Pierre. The soil here is the same as it is across the street. The wines are delicious, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon dominant beauties. This 2019 happens to be one of their best.!
