Perfectly situated in the northwest corner of St. Émilion, near the border shared with Pomerol is the gorgeous Chateau Chauvin. The Grand cru classe estate spanning 37 acres is sandwiched between neighbors Chateau Cheval Blanc and La Dominique with the entire vineyard planted on a single block.
The Chateau is owned by one of the most famous and powerful women in Bordeaux, Sylvie Cazes, who became the first woman to hold the position as president of the Union de Grand Crus de Bordeaux in 2012. On top of that and owning and managing Chateau Chauvin with her brother, Jean Michel (founder/owner Lynch Bages), she also owns the 3-star Michelin restaurant, Le Chapon Fin.
Sylvie, who purchased the property in 2014, wasted no time nor expense, plucking winemaker Phillipe Moreau from his position at Chateau Pichon Lalande and putting him in charge of both the Chauvin wines and their 2nd label, Folie de Chauvin. The timing couldn’t have been better as the stars aligned for the otherworldly 2015 vintage in St. Emilion.

Attractive baking spices and custard-powder aromas with blackberry and cassis. The palate delivers a silky, even-paced and vibrant array of plum and blackberry fruits amid dark-roasted spices. Best from 2022

Avignonesi’s wines took Nicholas Wines by storm last year with their ‘Grifi’ SuperTuscan, a highly rated, highly delicious bottle that put the winery firmly on my radar. It’s a great bottle of wine, but at this price – it completely overdelivers which is exactly what you’re looking for.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.
