Chad Sonoma Mountain Reserve 2019

My conversations with Chad are always a mix of the limbo and 21 questions, with Chad hula hooping through each answer, giving me hints while staying on the right side of the law. “From where I’m standing, I can see ….” Similar to …., but add 20 years to the age of the vines…” You get the picture.

So this year, when Chad told me he had something truly special that he was going to call the Chad Sonoma Mountain Private Reserve – I know this was a wine from the most rarefied of air. We went through our usual song and dance until I was both confident where the wine came from, and more importantly– how much I could divulge in my write-up for you.

Yes, this Bordeaux blend came from one of the few and special vineyards on Sonoma Mountain. No, I can’t tell you the name– but I can tell you that the vineyard is widely considered to be the very best old-patch, old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vineyard in the Mayacamas Mountains.
