Caymus’ inaugural California Cabernet release – a limited edition roll out.

I’ve been saying that the Wagner’s could use a killer California Cabernet that’s more attractively priced than its Napa counterpart and here it is (probably not because I asked for it). This is one of those rare occasions when America’s most iconic Cabernet brand, Caymus, is launching a new Cabernet in the market!

Year in, year out the Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is lights out. But lately, the prices have steadily increased while the costs have continued to soar. That has led the Wagners to look outside just their Napa holdings, leaning on their immense resources and secondary vineyards to create something new, exciting and more affordable.

This one is very similar in profile to the Napa Cab, it’s supple, dark and rich with a full-bodied feel. That Wagners feel this gives them a chance to celebrate California’s diverse vineyard land, often in lesser-known areas, with the potential to produce exceptional Cabernet and to still blow you away in the process. I’d say they did a pretty darn good job!
