This wine is beautiful and should cost you way more than it does. It’s a dark, juicy and vibrant red with blackberries, raspberry, mulberry, macerated cherries, and some lemon zest flavors backed by a hint of baking spices towards the finish. Wine Spectator wrote that the finish leaves a “mouthwatering impression” in their rave review while Suckling labeled this “A dense, compact and well-framed Carmignano” in his 91-point review. Both were equally smitten for this crowd-pleasing pizza wine from a legend in the region.

Dusty and floral, the 2022 Barco Reale opens in the glass with a pretty blend of autumnal spices, cedar shavings, Tuscan dust and dried strawberries. It sweeps across the palate with ease, soft-textured and supple, while mineral-tinged red berry fruits slowly saturate toward the close. A web of fine tannins frames the experience as the 2022 finishes with hints of orange citrus and a tart cherry twang.

A dense, compact and well-framed carmignano with aromas of red berries, clay and flowers. It’s medium-bodied with firm tannins. Textured, with a powdery touch. Densely fruited with a focused finish.

Black currant and cherry fruit is prominent in this vibrant, juicy red. There are also flavors of graphite, olive and tobacco underlined by dusty tannins. This leaves a mouthwatering impression. Drink now through 2028.
Most wineries weren’t founded back in 804 A.D. but Tenuta di Capezzana is definitely not like most wineries. Very few can boast the history, stature and respect amongst peers like this great estate. That’s part of what makes this one so special today.
The estate is just 12 miles west of Florence in the Carmignano sub-zone of Tuscany, one of its oldest recognized wine producing areas that wine historians believe may actually date back over 3000 years.
The Contini Bonacossi family is now on their fifth generation of Capezzana winemakers, and amazingly at no point down the line has the quality ever dipped. These guys are one of the best. Of course, given the new technological advancements, the wine is better than it’s ever been and this sprawling estate has racked up every accolade under the Tuscan sun.
