Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain 2022

93 Points, James Suckling – 92 Points, Decanter

This is the end of an era and one of the best deals you’ll ever see out of Washington. Duckhorn has decided to sell its famous Red Mountain vineyard to Quilceda Creek so we get a special one-time deal.

James Suckling gave this beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon a rave 93-point review, calling it “focused and sleek, with tight-knit tannins that run the length of the wine.” This is a gorgeous 86% Cabernet Sauvignon blend that has beautiful power and purity thanks to Red Mountain’s unique 40-50-degree temperature swings and the incredibly rocky soils that create Washington’s most prestigious Bordeaux varieties, with arguably the very best Merlot fruit in the state used to round out this Cabernet blend.

Original price was: $45.00.Current price is: $20.00.

93 Points, James Suckling
Cocoa powder, wild berries, walnuts and graphite on the nose. It’s focused and sleek, with a medium to full body and tight-knit tannins that run the length of the wine. Long and savory. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 3% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2026.

92 Points, Decanter
This Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain offers plenty of dark fruited depth and umami richness on the aromatics as smoky soy and hoisin envelope black plums and savory herbs with a whisper of wild, dried lavender. Dried desert scrub offers a savory frame with roast sea salt, black plums and anise layering on complexity and balance to this wine’s depth and mouth-filling breadth.

When others were chasing expensive Napa real estate and Cabernet contracts, Dan Duckhorn was quietly scouting out Washington’s Red Mountain as a play for the future.

By the time others caught on to how good Washington Cabernet could be, Dan had already launched Canvasback and was already sourcing fruit from the very best spots throughout Klipsun, Red Mountain and Walla Walla. Always a few steps ahead.

If it weren’t for 15 years of maintaining key relationships, today’s insane value simply wouldn’t be possible. I mean NO ONE else could pull this off besides the Duckhorn family. This is their first-ever Washington Cabernet available for this good of a price, and it’s utterly delicious. Without their unrivaled reputation in American winemaking, there’s no way they could create this magic.
